A significant fire that broke out in a warehouse in the Veddel area of Hamburg harbor has been extinguished after four days of intense efforts by firefighters and the use of special robots from Lower Saxony.
The fire, which started on August 25, 2025, was one of the larger ones in Hamburg's recent past, comparable to the fire in Billstraße in 2023. Around 600 firefighters were involved in the extinguishing efforts, compared to around 1,000 in the 2023 Billstraße fire.
The German Press Agency reported on the use of fire robots from Lower Saxony in the extinguishing efforts. These robots assisted the Hamburg fire department in their efforts, and the fire department spokesperson stated that the large extinguishing robots completed their important tasks before 6:00 AM.
Unfortunately, nine people were injured during the fire, including six firefighters. Thankfully, no more hotspots were found in the morning, and cleanup operations have begun at the public area of the site.
The police are now taking over the investigation into the cause of the fire. The investigation of the fire cause is being handled by the police, but initial results will not be available until at least mid-next week. Arson investigators will begin their work once the site is safe to access, which is still pending as of several days after the blaze.
